Chilean Snow Crab (Antarctic)

The Chilean Snow Crab (Paralomis granulosa) is also known as Centollon or Ice Crab.

Snowland is the largest producer of Centollon Snow Crab in southern Chile and proudly packs under the Snowland label, perhaps the best known brand in the industry. The Chilean Crab fishery is fully managed by SERNAPESCA, the governing body for all fishing activity. Capture and landings are tightly controlled under stringent environmental standards in support of environmental sustainability and species protection policies.

Chilean Snow Crabs are caught only by artisanal fishermen using traps with restricted catch licences, usually in combination with the larger King Crab. Inspectors strongly enforce minimum size limits and seasonal restrictions, whilst the taking of female crabs is strictly prohibited.

While some crab is packed whole for Asia, most of our Centollon crab is packed as ‘cooked and ready to eat’ meat under the Whiteland Brand for export to Europe and the USA.
